Cozybyte / Terms of use
The terms for
using Cozybyte.
These terms cover a Cozybyte account, the Windows app, and a Plus subscription (the paid, per-computer plan). They describe what Cozybyte may do on a computer, and what still needs your approval.
Effective October 9, 2026
In short
- Cozybyte is $9.99 per computer a month, or $99.90 per computer a year. Nothing is due until you choose to pay. Subscription and price
- You can cancel any time in My Account. Your subscription stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. There are no prorated refunds. Cancellation and refunds
- Cozybyte asks before it changes anything, like turning off apps that start with Windows or turning on Windows' own clean-up. Under Fix it for me it makes only fixes that can't lose anything. What Cozybyte may change
- A repair that needs administrator permission runs only after you review that exact step in Cozybyte and approve Windows' prompt, every time. Cozybyte never touches your personal files. What Cozybyte may change
- You keep your files, and Cozybyte is a helper, not a guarantee. Your computer and your files
This summary is to help you read the page; the full text below is what applies.
The agreement
These terms are a contract between you and the operator of the Cozybyte website and Windows app. The operator’s legal name and mailing address will be published on this page before a publicly signed Windows release. Creating an account, or using the website or the app, means you agree to these terms and the Privacy policy.
If a law where you live gives you a consumer right that cannot be waived, that right still applies. These terms do not limit it.
Who can create an account
The owner of a Cozybyte account is an adult. Cozybyte is not directed to children under 13, and it does not knowingly create an owner account for a child under 13. A child should not create the owner account or enter payment details. If the law where you live sets an older age for consent, that age applies. The Privacy policy says more.
Accounts and passkeys
You need an email address you can open and a name. You can create the account with a passkey or with a one-time email link, and the same link signs you in later. Cozybyte has no password to reset. A passkey sign-up still confirms the email before My Account and the Windows app open. Opening the email link confirms that address.
A recovery email adds a passkey on a device that does not have one yet. It lasts 20 minutes and leaves existing passkeys in place. If the account has passkeys, at least one stays. You can remove the others in My Account. An email link can still open the account.
The household
The person who creates the account is the owner. The owner can change billing, remove a computer, and delete the household. A caregiver and the person at the PC can approve a step. They cannot change the card or delete the household.
Put a computer on the subscription only if you own it or you are allowed to look after it. The owner is responsible for the computers on the subscription and for the people allowed to approve a change.
Subscription and price
Cozybyte is $9.99 per computer a month, or $99.90 per computer a year, which saves $19.98 a year on each computer. Each linked computer uses one of the computers you pay for. A computer that has not checked in for 30 days stops counting. Without a Plus subscription, a linked computer gets free local checks and explanations; fixes and questions need a Plus subscription.
Cozybyte comes in two options: Free, which needs no subscription, and a Plus subscription (the paid plan). Nothing is due until you choose to pay. When Stripe is handling payment, you enter the card on Stripe’s page, and the subscription starts when you pay and renews unless you cancel. If a payment does not go through, the paid features, such as AI help and automatic fixes, pause right away until the payment is collected; the free checks and one-click fixes keep working. Prices are in US dollars and can change for a later term. The price you accepted applies to the current term.
Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel any time in My Account. Your subscription stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and then it ends. We don't refund the current period, in full or in part: there are no prorated refunds. You can undo the cancellation until then.
If a payment doesn't go through, paid features pause right away and free checks continue. They come back as soon as the payment succeeds. If a charge is wrong because Cozybyte billed a subscription you had already canceled, write from the email on the account and Cozybyte will correct it. Questions about a Stripe charge can also go to the receipt Stripe sends.
The Windows app
The Windows app runs on Windows 11. It needs a confirmed email, and the paid features need a Plus subscription that is still in term. It does nothing until the computer is signed in to Cozybyte.
The app signs in through your browser, then keeps a key on the computer that cannot be copied off it, and its sign-in in Windows Credential Manager, so it can reach Cozybyte later. You can revoke that computer in My Account. Offline, the app trusts its last confirmation of your subscription for up to 72 hours; questions always need the service.
What Cozybyte may change
A reading can suggest a contributing factor. It does not, by itself, prove a cause. Cozybyte shows the evidence and the limit of the conclusion. Save your work before you take a step in Windows or in another application.
By default (Ask me), Cozybyte shows you every change first and waits for your yes. In Settings you can choose Tell me, which only explains, or Fix it for me.
Fix it for me lets Cozybyte do by itself only fixes that cannot lose anything. Today that means refreshing Windows’ list of website addresses (the network address cache; this doesn’t touch your browser history), turning an app off from starting with Windows, which uses Windows’ own on/off switch for your account and can be turned back on, and small repairs to your own Windows settings that can be undone. Cozybyte checks the result before and after each one.
Closing an app always asks first, in one question that names every app, because unsaved work cannot be put back. Cozybyte never touches your personal files, and it does not turn off Windows security.
Three buttons on the Checks page run only when you click them: Empty Recycle Bin, which goes through Windows’ own “permanently delete” question; Install updates, which opens Windows Update, where Windows installs them; and Restart now, which Cozybyte asks you to confirm first, and which Windows stops if an app has unsaved work.
Cozybyte can also update apps that are installed for everyone on the PC, and make a repair that needs administrator permission. It does this only after you review that exact step in Cozybyte and Windows asks for your permission, every time. Before an administrator repair Cozybyte makes a restore point. It never happens under Fix it for me, and Cozybyte never restarts the PC without asking.
Everything else runs as the person signed in to Windows. Cozybyte is not a Windows service: it runs from the notification area, and does nothing until the computer is signed in to Cozybyte.
Acceptable use
Use Cozybyte for the computers you are allowed to care for. The service can refuse or end access that breaks these rules.
- Do not use Cozybyte on a computer you are not allowed to maintain.
- Do not try to skip an approval, get around the limits on AI use, or interfere with another household.
- Do not use Cozybyte to break into a system, to harass someone, or to send unlawful content.
- Do not share a passkey, or present someone else’s passkey as yours.
Models and mistakes
Routine checks do not call a generative model. A model, when one is used, can be incomplete or wrong. Cozybyte is a helper. It is not a guarantee that a computer will be fast, secure, or free of data loss. Model spend for explanations stops at $1.50 per computer per month.
You decide whether a suggested step is right for that PC. Cozybyte’s explanation is there so you can make that decision with the evidence in view.
Your computer and your files
You keep your files. Cozybyte does not take ownership of them. You give Cozybyte permission to read the device signals described in the Privacy policy, and to take a step you have approved.
A report you save for support stays on your PC until you choose to send it to someone. A shared fix is stored without your name, email, household id, or file paths.
Availability and support
Cozybyte may change, pause, or retire a feature. The service can be interrupted. Help for the account, billing, and the Windows app is on Help & support. If you want a person to look, “Send a report to Cozybyte support” in Settings uploads a redacted report, kept 30 days, and gives you a short code to read out or paste in an email. Cozybyte will not ask you to send a password.
Ending access
You can stop using Cozybyte at any time and cancel as described above. Cozybyte can suspend or end access if a charge fails, if the account breaks these terms, or if continuing would create a security risk. Where Cozybyte can do so safely, it will tell you the reason and how to export what My Account already shows.
Disclaimers
The website, the account, and the Windows app are provided as available. Where the law allows it, Cozybyte disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Cozybyte does not warrant that a diagnosis is complete, that a check will catch every problem, or that the service will be uninterrupted.
Limits of responsibility
Where the law allows a limit, Cozybyte’s responsibility for a claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid Cozybyte for that computer during the three months before the claim. This limit does not apply where the law forbids it, including liability that cannot be limited for fraud or for personal injury.
These terms do not require arbitration, and they do not take away a right to bring an individual claim in a court that the law makes available to you.
Changes, law, and contact
Cozybyte can update these terms by posting a new version on this page. If a change materially affects price, cancellation, or what the app may do, Cozybyte will give notice in the account or by email before the next term that change applies to. Continuing after the notice takes effect means you accept the update. You can cancel before then.
If a dispute is not required to be heard where you live, it will be handled in the courts of the place where the operator has its principal business, once that place is published here. Write about these terms from the email on the account, or start at Help & support.
